Update on N. Lagoon and South Lagoon maintenance

Follow up to N. Lagoon harvesting and S. Lagoon water monitoring
On September 18, 2025, the Board of Directors motioned to approve Lake Tech to come in with a Aquatic Harvester to remove the Widgeon Weed/grass from the N. Lagoon.
Notice was posted on the Marquee, Website and Facebook
The N. Lagoon and Calypso ramp were closed for maintenance September 22 – September 26.
Lake Tech Harvester cut the 8 feet tall vegetation. Some of the vegetation was below 2 and 4 feet and the harvester could not reach those plants.
Another find was Asian Date Mussels. According to Fish and Wildlife sources, (Lake Tech reached out to) there is no reporting necessary. These are in the bay and potentially could spread if you do not wash/clean your boat, trailer, vehicle etc., especially if you boat other places.
Also, found were dead goldfish and aquarium plants -all invasive.
Lake Tech has placed a buoy in the S. Lagoon- Sunrise monitoring the water quality. The buoy monitoring collects data and I am able to see the data on the computer. The CSD staff will receive training in the next few weeks.
If you have any questions, please call the CSD office and not the contractor.
Thank you very much,

North Lagoon and ramp closure information 9-22 to 9-26-25

Even with the North Lagoon being closed from 9/22-9/26 to remove the widgeon grass, we haven’t been able to remove as much widgeon grass as we would of liked due to residents refusing to acknowledge the North Lagoon being closed. Between boats pulling tubes, wakeboarding and other water related activities, the harvester has struggled to remove the widgeon grass due to wakes and obstacles. Now we will have to pull permits to treat the lagoon to kill off the remaining widgeon grass with chemicals. When we shut the lagoon down for that, it will be in everyone’s best interest health wise to stay out of the lagoon.

Closure N. Lagoon and Calypso Ramp

NOTICE:

N. Lagoon and Calypso ramp will be closed starting September 22 through September 26, 2025 for Maintenance.

A harvester will be in the water removing the widgeon weed and the disposal site will be at the Calypso ramp.

If you have any questions, please call the office 415-883-4222

Water Testing results

The water testing of the North and South Lagoon can be viewed by clicking this link:  Solitude Lake Water Test Results

On August 12, 2025, District Manger, Lisa Lue, Waterways Manager, Brian Clark and Director Vince Lattanzio met with Solitude Lake Management and Try Marine.

These are the two companies we chose to assist in bringing back the healthiness of our lagoons.

We are requesting Bel Marin Keys North and South Lagoon be chosen for a concurrent test pilot program. The discussion consisted of the area in both lagoons we would like to section off for the sample area and costs associated with the test pilot program. I am awaiting a proposal from the two companies, and I hope to have one for the upcoming Board Meeting on August 21, 2025.

The algae treatment we are currently applying will continue for the next two months.

Thank you,

Lisa

Vandalism at S. Levee

The blackberry bandits have struck again. This is the second time the fence at S. Levee has been cut. The CSD repaired it once, but this time they took off with the section of the fence. Please call the office 415-883-4222, if you see any vandalism in the Bel Marin Keys Community.
Thank you,
Lisa, BMKCSD
